One of the hardest decisions to make when choosing a rug is what colour to go for. Being as rugs take up a lot of floor space, the wrong choice of colour will stand out horribly. The fear of this can leave you indecisive however, so how can you ensure you choose wisely?
The logical place to start is to look at the rug’s surroundings. Don’t just go for the colour that appeals the most. Think about what else there is in the room. Is your carpet neutral or strongly-coloured? What are your curtains like? Do you have painted walls or wallpaper?
All of these things will have an impact on your choice of rug. If you have a very busy wallpaper pattern, you will probably be better off with a plainer rug. Equally, if your curtains are a strong colour or you have a bright feature wall, you might go for something more understated. However, if everything is a little bit bland – lots of creams and beiges – perhaps you will want to add a dash of colour to elevate the look of the room.
