Introduce black furnishings for a richer aesthetic

Lots of people choose to use very light shades, creams and whites in the interior design at the moment. They go for pale curtains or blinds alongside white rugs, cushions and upholstery. However, although all these light colours make the most of the brightness in the room, they don’t always add much in the way of richness. You really can’t beat black when it comes to creating a rich and chic setting.

The key is often how you juxtapose light and dark. For instance, black drapes will always look better when they are layered with white netting beneath, both because the way black and white interact and for the texture that is created.

Equally, if you have pale settees or pale coloured laminate flooring or carpets, then black rugs make a fascinating addition to the room. Black curtains and black rugs could be the only presence of black in your living space and yet they will have enough weight to make a huge impression.

Try to resist making your living areas too light and uninteresting. Introduce some darker shades and a bit of black just to give your interior design that something extra it might otherwise miss out on.
